Morristown pedophile sentenced
A 73-year-old pedophile who fondled three clients at a Morristown-run drug treatment center where he volunteered was sentenced this morning to a year in the jail and ordered to pay $10,000.
While Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood argued for a three-year prison term for Terence M. Lynch, Superior Court Judge Joseph A. Falcone gave him four years probation, including a year in jail. Lynch would first become eligible for parole in four months.

In November, Lynch admitted that while volunteering at the now-defunct Beginnings Drug and Alcohol Program, he unnecessarily touched the genitals of two men on probation during urine screenings and spanked a third probationer for failing a drug test.

Lynch, who went by the name "Dr. Mike,'' admitted that he intentionally led the clients to believe he was a doctor. He pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal sexual contact and one count of practicing medicine without a license.

A psychologist who evaluated Lynch in September determined he has a sexual fetish, but Lynch denied that, saying he used corporal punishment for disciplinary purposes.

In 1989, he admitted molesting 12 boys at a Mendham Township boarding school and was served seven years in state prison. When he was paroled in 1997, he began volunteering at Beginnings.

Lynch did not speak at sentencing, and none of his Beginnings victims attended. However, one of his former victims from the Chartwell Manor School wrote a letter to Falcone urging him to give Lynch the maximum sentence.

In the courtroom, former Lynch student Ed Vaeth quietly cried. Vaeth attended Chartwell School in Basking Ridge before it relocated to Mendham Township, said he claims Lynch fondled him and "beat the hell out of me.''

"He had a prior conviction that was wicked,'' Vaeth, 46, said. "He should have gotten a lot more than that (a year in jail).''

Falcone noted the poor health of both Lynch and his wife, who has Alzheimer's Disease. Lynch as been caring for her, along with a nurse in their Morristown home. A niece is stepping in to help care for her while Lynch is in jail, defense attorney Peter Gilbreth said.

Croquetas de Bacalo

(Spanish Salt Cod Croquettes Tapas)

200g/7oz bacalo/salt cod (unsoaked weight)
35g/1.5 oz plain flour
2--3 cloves garlic
good handfull of chopped parsley
600ml/1 pint milk
olive oil
breadcrumbs

Soak the salt cod over night, changing the water frequently. Break
up the soaked salt cod into small flakes. Fry garlic and parsley
in a little olive oil. Add the salt cod and continue to cook for
1--2 minutes. Add the flour and mix well before adding the milk
slowly with stirring to give a thick paste, which should be cooked
briefly. When cool, shape into small oblongs, coat in breacrumbs
and fry gently in oil.
